Shining Bright After Challenges: Cambourne’s Post-COVID Diwali Celebration

On the evening of Sunday, October 31st, Cambourne experienced a radiant resurgence as the community gathered at the Hub Community Centre for its post-COVID Festival of Lights Diwali, also known as Deepa-vali, where “Deepa” signifies light and “Vali” means in a row. Councillor Shrobona Bhattacharya, the organizer, expressed gratitude as nearly 10 community groups joined hands to support this festival, aiming to illuminate the light within the Cambourne community.

A Global Celebration: Embracing Diversity

Diwali, spanning five days, is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists (Nepal) communities worldwide. Symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil, Diwali holds a special significance. It serves as a metaphorical opening of one’s true light, sparking a sense of unity and shared joy.

A Community United: Lighting Up Cambourne

Cambourne’s community members ignited oil lamps in their homes, fostering a sense of warmth and togetherness. Sweets and gifts exchanged among families added to the festive spirit, symbolizing the bonds of community. The lights from decorated houses and vibrant rangoli designs outside doors painted a picture of celebration and unity throughout Cambourne.

Diwali: Beyond Borders and Challenges

As the oil lamps illuminated Cambourne, the celebration extended beyond physical spaces, resonating with the illumination of the metaphorical light within each individual. Diwali, in essence, became a celebration of inner strength, hope, and the unwavering spirit of the community.

Building Bridges and Strengthening Bonds
