Another team mentor comment about Team CERC
Hi,
At the weekend, my Lego Robot team – the Wardley Warriors – were competing at the National Finals at Harrogate.
During the event, we had the pleasure of meeting your team. I wanted to say that I was really impressed with your team and the way they conducted themselves.
The event can be very stressful as you are never quite sure how your robot is going it work on the day. We were one of the first teams to arrive at the venue and headed straight to the practise tables which was where we met your team for the first time. We were practising on adjoining tables. Both our teams were checking out each other’s robots and soon we got chatting.
I didn’t ask what the lad was called – but at the closing ceremony there was a video clip of him rapping. He in particular stood out as being friendly. He asked my team some lovely questions about their robot and what missions they found the hardest. He just came over so well. Within minutes, he was offering tips and seemed genuinely interested in what my team was doing.
Our first two robot runs were a bit disappointing but we smashed our last run and qualified in 8th position for the last 12 tournament. As we were waiting to find out what table we were on, we were queueing for next to your team. Again, they were so affirming and seemed really excited to see that we had made it that far. They were telling us how well we had done as it was the team’s first year. They even mentioned how in their first year they had got to nationals with a score of 40. They were just lovely. It was a lovely moment.
I came over at the end of the tournament to say bye to team but really wanted to send you a quick message.
If you could mention to the parents of the lad in particular how impressed I was with him, I would be grateful. I have two younger sons and I would be delighted if they turned out to be anything like him.
I left the event with lots of great memories. Meeting your team and having got to know them even briefly was one of them. It was lovely to meet like-minded Lego Robot competitors.
They should be very proud of their hard work and the way they conducted themselves. I was glad to see their hard work was rewarded on the day.
All the best,
Dan
