Digital Surgery for Cambourne’s 60+ Bridging Generations

Digital-Surgery 2018

Empowering Seniors with Digital Surgery

CamCare UK is proud to introduce “Digital Surgery,” a drop-in service tailored for residents aged 60 and above. This initiative aims to provide a supportive environment for seniors to familiarize themselves with using smartphones, tablets, laptops, and computers. Scheduled on alternate Sundays from 2 pm to 5 pm at Blue School, Digital Surgery runs parallel with the Cambourne Electronics and Robotics Club (CERC).

Breaking Down Technological Barriers

The Digital Surgery sessions are designed to cater to the specific needs of 60+ residents, offering them a platform to overcome any technological hurdles they may face. Whether navigating a smartphone, using social media, sending emails, or exploring the internet, the volunteers at Digital Surgery are dedicated to helping seniors navigate the digital landscape.

Tackling Loneliness Through Technology

Councillor Shrobona Bhattacharya emphasizes the potential of communication technologies in addressing loneliness among seniors. Recognizing the importance of staying connected with family and friends, Cllr. Bhattacharya envisions a digitally inclusive community where every senior can confidently embrace the advantages of emerging technologies.

A Personal Connection to the Cause

Cllr. Shrobona Bhattacharya shares a personal connection to this initiative, inspired by her mother’s challenges with technology. Understanding seniors’ difficulties adapting to touchscreens and other modern devices, she advocates for steps that empower seniors to enrich their lives through technology.

Volunteer Support and Community Collaboration

CamCare UK’s volunteers are enthusiastic about assisting in various digital skills, including email, word processing, basic Excel, internet searching, PowerPoint, and using social platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, video calls, and Skype. The initiative has garnered support from the local community, with Cambourne Village College students like Aditi Anand and Oscar Bristow actively participating as volunteers.

Building a Digitally Inclusive Community

Digital Surgery serves as a practical resource for seniors and fosters a sense of community where knowledge is shared across generations. The goal is to create a digitally inclusive Cambourne, where individuals of all ages can harness the benefits of technology and stay connected in today’s fast-changing society.
