Cambourne First Art Day Sit and Draw 2016: A Roaring Success!

Art Day 2016

Introduction of Art Day

On the sunny Saturday of August 6th, 2016, Cambourne witnessed a burst of creativity and community spirit at the ‘Cambourne Art Day Sit and Draw’ event at the Hub. Organized by Dr. Shrobona Bhattacharya and her family, this event brought together nearly 50 children and their families for a day filled with artistic expression and camaraderie.

Unleashing Creativity for All Ages

The event’s primary goal was to provide a platform for children of all ages to unleash their creativity. Shrobona Bhattacharya shared, “It’s not just about drawing; it’s about allowing children to express themselves freely, and for parents to connect with others in the community.”

The festivities commenced at 2 pm, with Shrobona’s daughter, Yagna Bhattacharya, setting the stage by explaining the rules. Children were assigned drawing themes based on their age groups. Families brought their colouring materials, and the organizers provided the necessary paper.

Creating Bonds Across Tables: The event saw a remarkable turnout, and with so many families in attendance, each table became a hub of creativity. Parents and children shared tables, fostering an environment where families could forge connections with each other. It was a perfect blend of artistic expression and community building.

Public Showcase and Sweet Treats: At 3:15 pm, the artistic endeavours culminated as each drawing adorned the walls, transforming the venue into a vibrant gallery. Homemade cakes added a sweet touch to the event, creating a delightful atmosphere for participants and attendees.

Supporting Cambourne Time Bank: The organizers went the extra mile by offering a variety of items for sale, including plants and drawing canvases. All proceeds went to Cambourne Time Bank, a local initiative that fosters community support and collaboration.

Prize Distribution and Recognition: The day’s highlight came at 4 pm when prizes were distributed. Every child received a personalized certificate, and token gifts were handed out by Time Bank Members Joan and Janet. Each age category produced a winner, awarded a prize, and a proudly displayed rosette.

Future Prospects and Enthusiastic Response

Reflecting on the event’s success, Yagna Bhattacharya expressed, “The event has proved to be very popular, so we would consider doing it again in the future.” The overwhelming response from the community has set the stage for more collaborative and creative endeavours.

Conclusion: The ‘Cambourne Art Day Sit and Draw’ event of 2016 stands as a testament to the power of art in bringing communities together. Beyond the strokes of colour on paper, it painted a picture of camaraderie, shared experiences, and the potential for future collaborative events that celebrate creativity and connection.
