Cambourne 3rd Art Day 2018: Brushstrokes of Unity

Art Day 2018

Introduction of Art Day

On a radiant Saturday afternoon, July 7th, 2018, Cambourne became a canvas of creativity and community cohesion during the ‘Cambourne Art Day Sit and Draw’ event at the Hub. Led by the initiative of Dr. Shrobona Bhattacharya and her family, this vibrant gathering brought together around 70 children and their families, turning a simple day into a tapestry of artistic expression and shared joy.

A Palette of Possibilities Unleashed for All Ages

Creative Freedom More than just a drawing event, the primary objective was to provide a platform for children of all ages to unleash their creativity. Dr. Shrobona Bhattacharya emphasized the importance of self-expression, stating, “It’s not just about drawing; it’s about allowing children to express themselves freely, and for parents to connect with others in the community.”

Commencement of Festivities At 2 pm, the artistic festivities commenced, with Shrobona’s daughter, Yagna Bhattacharya, setting the stage by explaining the rules. Children were assigned drawing themes based on their age groups, and families came prepared with their coloring materials, while organizers provided the necessary paper.

Creating Connections Across Tables

Community Hub With an impressive turnout, each table became a hub of creativity, as parents and children shared spaces, fostering an environment where families could forge connections with each other. The event seamlessly blended artistic expression with community building, creating an atmosphere of shared enthusiasm and creativity.

Public Showcase and Sweet Delights At 3:15 pm, the culmination of artistic endeavours transformed the venue into a vibrant gallery. Homemade cakes added a sweet touch to the event, enhancing the delightful atmosphere for participants and attendees.

Supporting Local Initiatives and Recognition

Contributions to Cambourne Time Bank Going the extra mile, the organizers offered various items for sale, including plants and drawing canvases, with all proceeds dedicated to Cambourne Time Bank. This local initiative focuses on fostering community support and collaboration.

Highlight of the Day: Prize Distribution The day’s pinnacle arrived at 4 pm with the distribution of prizes. Every child received a personalized certificate, and token gifts were bestowed by Time Bank Members Joan and Janet. Winners in each age category proudly displayed their rosettes, creating a moment of recognition and celebration.

Enthusiastic Response and Future Prospects

Reflecting on Success Yagna Bhattacharya, reflecting on the event’s success, expressed, “The event has proved to be very popular, so we would consider doing it again in the future.” The overwhelming response from the community has set the stage for more collaborative and creative endeavors in the future.

Conclusion: A Masterpiece of Community Unity

The ‘Cambourne Art Day Sit and Draw‘ event of 2016 stands as a testament to the transformative power of art in bringing communities together. Beyond the strokes of colour on paper, it painted a picture of camaraderie, shared experiences, and the potential for future collaborative events that celebrate creativity and connection.
