Mela Festival: Cambourne’s Grand South Asian New Year Celebration

On the vibrant canvas of cultural diversity, the Cambourne Hub Community Centre became the epicenter of joy as it hosted the South Asian New Year Celebration on Sunday, April 15th. This joyous occasion brought together communities from various Indian and South Asian countries, including the celebrations of Vishu, Puthandu, Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Pana Sankranti, Navreh, Cheti Chand, Bihu, Poila Baishakh, Nobo-borsho, Baishakhi (Punjab and Haryana’s crop festival), and more.

Embracing Unity in Diversity

Parish Councillor and organizer, Shrobona Bhattacharya, shared the essence of the event, highlighting how it beautifully encapsulated the rich tapestry of traditions from states across India, as well as Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The Cambourne Hub became a melting pot where diverse cultures converged, celebrating their unique New Year traditions under one roof.
