South Cambridgeshire District Council’s (SCDC) annual Community Awards for the Outstanding Youth Initiative was presented to Dr Sujit Bhattacharya, mentor of the Cambourne Electronics and Robotics Club (CERC). Dr Bhattacharya, a space engineer, educator, researcher and active STEM ambassador, started this club with his wife Cllr. Dr Shrobona Bhattacharya for children from 7 to 14 years old. They both believe everyone should have access to education and training in digital skills and aim to help close the community’s digital divide and skills gap. CERC now has more than 30 diverse and creative children passionate about science and technology.
CERC’s mission is to provide students with high-quality and authentic learning experiences using technology as a gateway to cultivate students’ inquisitive nature, exercise innovation, think critically, and collaborate to become tomorrow’s innovators who are self-sufficient learners. The club supports and provides resources, facilitating the design and implementation of high-quality, sustainable STEM learning environments, leading to effective STEM education. These initiatives are delivering new services to the local community, and their positive impact is felt by many enthusiastic parents and children.
