Cambourne's multicultural diverse community marked Diwali, Festival of Lights at Hub Community Centre on Saturday, 21st October.
Cambourne set an example of Acceptance and togetherness in the Festival of Colours. Cambourne residents found Holi festival was a good example of Inclusiveness and friendship.
Cambourne held its 2nd Mela on Saturday 8th April, at Hub Community Centre. More than three hundred people attended to celebrations.
Diwali celebrated at the Hub Community Centre for general awareness, where all people were invited to participate in the celebration. People in India and other South Asian countries light candles around their houses to signify the triumph of good over evil, hope over despair.
Mela event's significance, stating, "Most of the Indian and South Asian New Years fall on 14th April or in March-end. They are known by various names like Vishu, Puthandu, Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Cheti Chand, Poila Baishakh, and Bihu.
Cambourne introduced to the meaning of the Diwali festival as a triumph of good over evil, light over darkness. Then, we were treated to some traditional songs, prayers and dances. The women got a chance to try on saris and finally, we all shared a meal of lentil dal and rice, followed by ice cream.
